About the Song

DJ Tunez and Terry Apala are back together on Apala Groove. The indigenous-fusion single builds on the chemistry the duo established years earlier on their earlier record Apala Disco, which gained wider attention through a remix featuring Wizkid and Seyi Vibez. The new track reconnects the pair after that prior collaboration, giving the release an established foundation to build from.

DJ Tunez handles production with a thumping Afrobeats foundation, creating space for Terry Apala’s distinctive vocal cadence and percussive delivery to take center stage. The result blends traditional Apala elements, a Yoruba style built on call-and-response vocals and percussion, with the energy of contemporary Nigerian club music, keeping that cultural contrast at the heart of the record rather than overcomplicating the presentation.

The release follows DJ Tunez’s Zerry Sound and arrives after his prior hit collaboration with Wizkid, State of Mind. Beyond its danceable appeal, Apala Groove reflects DJ Tunez’s broader goal of pushing authentic Nigerian sounds to an international audience, with Terry Apala’s performance reinforcing the track’s cultural identity throughout.

Terry Apala, born Terry Alexander Ejeh, has built his career around reviving and modernizing the Apala genre for contemporary fans, and this reunion with DJ Tunez extends that mission into another fresh, dancefloor-ready setting.
