Ronaldo vs Jesus saga takes a messy turn with new revelation

The dispute between Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal manager Jorge Jesus has taken another turn after new details emerged about what the forward reportedly wanted the coach to say publicly following their disagreement during the latest national team camp.
With Ronaldo back at Al Nassr, the saga looks far from over.
What is the latest update on the Ronaldo vs Jesus case?

Following Ronaldo’s statement released on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, Jorge Jesus, the Portuguese coach said he had not yet read it because he had been watching the Portugal Under-21 match. “I didn’t read Cristiano’s statement, I was watching Portugal U21 game,” Jesus said. “I will now have time to read it.”
This comes after the shocking revelation from journalist Romain Molina, according to the information shared in the Portuguese media, a set of talking points approved by Ronaldo was sent to Jesus ahead of a press conference. The notes included an admission that the coach had made a mistake by asking a player of Ronaldo’s stature to warm up without eventually bringing him into the game.
One of the proposed lines read: “I made a mistake by sending someone of the calibre of Pelé or Maradona out to warm up and then not bringing him into the game. If it were today, I wouldn’t do it.”
The notes also reportedly stated that Jesus had personally presented Ronaldo with a plan for the season, that the captain had accepted it, and that he had remained professional and loyal throughout the process. They further stressed that Jesus still wanted Ronaldo in the national team and that the player continued to believe in him.
The Portuguese Football Federation was also said to have supported the idea of Jesus addressing the issue publicly, given Ronaldo’s importance to the national team and the wider commercial interests surrounding his continued involvement.
What did Ronaldo’s statement say?

Ronaldo’s own statement gave his version of events surrounding the recent camp and his relationship with Jesus.
The 41-year-old said he had initially considered retiring from international football after the 2026 World Cup but was persuaded by the Portuguese Football Federation president to reconsider.
Ronaldo also revealed that he had supported Jesus’s appointment when the federation asked for his opinion on the coach.
According to Ronaldo, Jesus later met with him and presented a plan for how he would be managed during the season. The arrangement included playing selected matches while having his workload carefully managed.
Ronaldo said he rejected an initial suggestion that he should remain in Portugal while the rest of the squad travelled for away fixtures, arguing that such treatment would not set the right example for a captain.
The forward added that the two sides later agreed on the plan and that he entered the latest camp believing he would not feature in the match in Norway.
However, Ronaldo said that on the day of the game, a member of Jesus’s staff approached him and informed him that the coach wanted to speak.
According to Ronaldo, Jesus then asked if he was fit enough to play for around 30 minutes. Ronaldo said he agreed and was told to prepare to come on.
He subsequently warmed up from half-time but was never introduced.
Ronaldo described that moment as the point at which Jesus “broke his word” to him.
The latest revelations now add another layer to an already public disagreement between Portugal’s captain and head coach, with both sides having now presented their versions of what happened during the camp.
