The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the passing of veteran actor Francis Duru.
Tributes have continued to surface across different sectors since the announcement. According to PM News Nigeria, the Association of Movie Producers in the Federal Capital Territory (AMP-FCT) described the actor’s passing as a devastating loss to the movie industry. Fellow film stars have also expressed their grief over the death of the performer, known among peers and fans for his role as Ahanna, The Sun Nigeria reported.
Tributes have also come from outside core industry circles. NewsDiaryOnline reported that a lecturer in Theatre and Film Studies at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), joined others in mourning the veteran. Similarly, the Africa Women Conference has expressed sorrow over his demise, according to LEADERSHIP Newspapers.
Reflecting on his life, TheCable Lifestyle noted that before finding his way into the film industry, Duru once worked as a bus conductor after failing the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.
