The federal administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been taken before the Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States over audit queries amounting to N78.8 billion, according to a report by The Whistler Newspaper.
The legal action challenges the authorities over financial accountability issues linked to the multi-billion naira queries raised in official audit findings. The matter has now been escalated to the regional judicial body, which sits in Abuja and handles human rights and treaty compliance matters across West Africa.
The ECOWAS Court serves as an independent judicial organ for member states, providing a platform where citizens, civil society groups, and institutions can seek redress against governments over international obligations and public accountability.
Further details regarding the specific plaintiffs in the case, the hearing dates, and the formal response from the Federal Ministry of Justice or the presidency were not immediately disclosed.
