Three prominent Nigerian Christian denominations have firmly rejected claims that their leaders received oil wells from former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The allegations surfaced following a viral video of a sermon delivered by Rev. Mosy Madugba, the founder and president of Ministers’ Prayer Network.
In the clip circulating across social media platforms, Madugba alleged that during his administration, Obasanjo distributed oil blocks to high-profile church leaders. He specifically named the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye; the founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo; and the General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi.
According to Punch, representatives from the affected ministries strongly refuted the statements. A senior media aide to Pastor Kumuyi described the assertion as ridiculous, explaining that the cleric’s work is strictly focused on preaching the gospel and winning souls rather than commercial oil investments.
Speaking for Living Faith Church, also known as Winners’ Chapel, Director of Media Patrick Nkamiang stated that national petroleum assets are governed by federal laws and do not serve as personal property for any sitting president to distribute. Nkamiang maintained that Bishop Oyedepo enforces strict standards against suspicious donations, adding that the ministry does not intend to pursue legal proceedings over the remarks.
An official from the media unit of the RCCG indicated that the church would not issue an extensive formal reaction unless Madugba presents verified evidence to back his claims.
An official from Madugba’s church, identified as Blessing Madugba, told reporters they would follow up with a response, while media representatives for former President Obasanjo could not be reached for comment.
