President Bola Tinubu has called on young Nigerians to collect their Permanent Voter Cards and take part in the 2027 general elections. He made the call on Saturday during an All Progressives Congress campaign rally organised by the Rainbow Coalition in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Speaking to supporters at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Tinubu stated that the upcoming poll is about securing the future of young citizens rather than serving his personal ambitions, according to Punch. He described the voter card as a key instrument to tackle poverty and foster economic progress, urging anyone yet to collect theirs to do so immediately.
During the event, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara promised that the state would generate at least three million votes for Tinubu's re-election bid. Fubara attributed the political alignment to the leadership of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike within the Rainbow Coalition.
Tinubu commended Fubara for his conduct, thanking him for showing maturity and accepting the intervention of political leaders during past disputes. The President also showed appreciation to Wike for gathering supporters for the event and praised his infrastructure work in the federal capital.
Several prominent political figures attended the gathering, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, and former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The public show of unity signals significant ground gained following a prolonged dispute between Fubara and Wike that started in October 2023 over control of the state's political structure. The friction previously triggered a division in the state assembly and led to emergency rule in Rivers between March and September 2025 before normal governance resumed.
