The Lagos State Government has promised to keep supporting German investors and organisations wanting to do business in the state, aiming to build deeper ties in technology, trade, education, and industry.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu shared this message through the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, according to Punch. The remarks were made on Tuesday during an event celebrating the 36th anniversary of German reunification at the German Residence in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu explained that Lagos remains open to working with international partners to draw investments and build economic strength. He noted that Germany's industrial and technical skills, paired with Nigeria's drive and market size, create great room for shared success.
The governor described the 66-year bond between Nigeria and Germany as a strong partnership built on diplomacy, business, and cultural ties. He specifically praised German bodies active in Lagos, pointing to the Goethe-Institut for helping to nurture cultural, educational, and commercial links between both nations.
Speaking at the gathering, the German Consul-General in Lagos, Daniel Krull, confirmed that his country wants to expand trade, investment, and educational exchange. He revealed that Germany has directed over €700 million to Nigeria through development loans and grants, with plans to grow that assistance in the future.
Krull also mentioned that Germany backs transparent, fair trade rules to give businesses confidence. In addition, he said Germany plans to process more visa applications and drew attention to low-cost study options available to Nigerian students at German universities.
