Liverpool have booked their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals and will face fellow Premier League club Bournemouth in the next round. The match-up was confirmed following the official draw held on Wednesday night after the fourth-round ties concluded, according to Punch.
The Reds secured their spot in the last eight after an intense showdown with Chelsea at Anfield. The sides played out a 1-1 draw during normal time, with both goals coming from penalty kicks before the interval. Morgan Rogers gave Chelsea the advantage in the 40th minute, but Cody Gakpo levelled for the hosts just three minutes later after Wesley Fofana handled the ball in the penalty area.
With no extra time played, the game moved straight to penalties. Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili stopped an effort from Emmanuel Emegha, while Chelsea stopper Mike Penders kept out Ryan Gravenberch. Joe Gomez scored his kick for Liverpool, and Fofana subsequently blasted his penalty over the bar to seal a 6-5 shootout victory for the Reds.
The quarter-final stage will also see tournament holders Manchester City continue their title defence at home against Bradford City. In another fixture, Crystal Palace are scheduled to take on Sunderland.
Surprise package Fleetwood Town, who previously knocked Arsenal out of the tournament, will face either Everton or Newcastle United. The final opponent for Fleetwood will be decided when Everton and Newcastle complete their fourth-round contest.
The quarter-final fixtures are scheduled to take place during the week starting December 14, as clubs battle for a spot in the semi-finals.
