The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has launched a 168-member presidential and parliamentary campaign council to mobilise support for the 2027 general elections. The team is tasked with driving the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu and securing wins for all legislative candidates contesting under the party’s banner.
According to Punch, the initiative was confirmed in a statement released in Osogbo by the state APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal. He noted that the council was formed to boost the party's electoral strength and guarantee a clean sweep for both national and state assembly contenders alongside the presidency.
Bola Oyebamiji, the party's standard-bearer in the state governorship election, serves as the Director-General of the newly formed body. Lawal acts as the Deputy Director-General, while Oyebamiji’s running mate, Benjamin Adereti, and Kehinde Olamolu were picked as Assistant Director-General 1 and 2, respectively.
The list features several prominent political figures, including former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Foluke Etteh, and retired General Alani Akinrinade. It also brings together former deputy governors Adeleke Adewoyin, Iyiola Omisore, Titi Laoye-Ponnle, and Adegboyega Alabi, alongside Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, and party spokesperson Kola Olabisi.
This announcement sets up a parallel structure following a campaign council inaugurated earlier on October 22 by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke. That earlier setup named Adeleke as coordinator, causing disagreement within the party after he stated he would back only Tinubu and not APC parliamentary candidates.
Lawal had raised concerns that state party executives were not consulted before Adeleke's team was formed. Key figures such as former governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, alongside Oyebamiji and Lawal, were notably missing from that initial gathering.
The APC leadership maintains that its new 168-member team will work together across grassroots networks. The council intends to coordinate full campaigns for both the presidency and legislative seats as political activities build up across Osun State.
