Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have taken a cleric, Edwin Nwabueze, and an associate, Sadiq Jamiu, into custody over their alleged involvement in stealing a car in Abuja. The vehicle, identified as a Toyota Camry, was taken from UTC Plaza located in the Garki district.
According to Punch, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development in an official statement released on Friday. Adeh explained that law enforcement officers tracked down and arrested Nwabueze at his home on October 27 after carrying out preliminary inquiries into the reported theft.
During questioning, the principal suspect described himself as a minister serving with Salvation Power Bible Ministry, located in the North Bank area of Benue State. Although an indigene of Oji River in Enugu State, he has been residing in Benue, where he allegedly carried out some of his activities.
Following his arrest, Nwabueze guided security personnel to the hideout where Jamiu was subsequently picked up. Early findings by the police revealed that Nwabueze had previously been detained by the Benue State Police Command over similar motor vehicle theft allegations.
The authorities noted that the pair are members of a broader network that operates across state borders to snatch and dispose of stolen automobiles. Security agents are continuing their investigation to trace other members of the ring who are evading capture.
Both men remain in police custody while detectives complete their work. The FCT command stated that the suspects will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as inquiries are concluded.
