West Ham United have officially dismissed their head coach, Nuno Espírito Santo, with immediate effect after an underwhelming run of results in the EFL Championship. The club announced the decision on Tuesday, November 3, stating that a change in leadership was required to keep their promotion ambitions alive.

According to Punch, the club explained that the board reached the verdict after carrying out a detailed evaluation of their start to the campaign. The management stated that the step was essential to ensure the team remain aligned with their set targets for the season.

The decision comes directly after the Hammers suffered consecutive home defeats against Southampton and West Bromwich Albion. West Ham currently sit eighth in the Championship standings, having picked up six wins, four draws, and three losses from their first 13 fixtures.

Nuno’s backroom staff members, assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeping coach Rui Barbosa, have also parted ways with the English outfit. The club thanked all three coaches for their efforts and dedication during their tenure.

The Portuguese tactician joined West Ham on September 27, 2025, on a three-year deal after replacing Graham Potter. However, he could not stop the side from suffering relegation from the Premier League last season, setting automatic promotion as the major target for the current term.

Before his arrival in East London, the former goalkeeper built a solid managerial track record in England and abroad. He previously led Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Championship title in 2018 and later secured consecutive seventh-place Premier League finishes with the club. He also managed Tottenham Hotspur, Valencia, Porto, and Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad, where he won the league title in 2022.

In his stint before West Ham, Nuno took Nottingham Forest to seventh place in the top flight and reached the FA Cup semi-finals in the 2024/25 season.

West Ham confirmed that the search for a permanent head coach has already begun. In the interim, former club captain Mark Noble, alongside Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville, will take charge of squad preparations ahead of their upcoming league clash with Cardiff City.
