The Nigeria Democratic Congress has announced the setup of its National Campaign Council to prepare for the 2027 general elections. The party selected its national leader, Seriake Dickson, as chairman, while its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will act as co-chairman, according to Politics Nigeria.
The announcement came from the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, who released the official roster on Sunday. NDC National Chairman Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe was named vice chairman of the council, and the party’s vice-presidential flagbearer, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will serve as co-vice chairman.
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal was appointed as chairman of the National Campaign Advisory Council and also secured a seat on the National Campaign Caucus. Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the party’s national secretary, was designated as the secretary of the overall campaign council.
Other members of the campaign caucus include Ibrahim Hussain Abdulkarim, who is the director-general of the presidential campaign, alongside Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator Victor Umeh, Buba Galadima, Moshood Salvador, and National Woman Leader Dudu Manuga. Key federal lawmakers, including Victor Ogene, who leads the NDC House of Representatives Caucus, and Muktar Usman, were also placed on the team.
The party also established its National Campaign Advisory Council. In that arm, Babachir Lawal leads as chairman, supported by Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe as co-chairman and former Ebonyi State governor Sam Egwu as vice chairman. State representatives across the country were assigned, including Professor Pat Utomi for Delta, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu for Abia, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo for Enugu, and Chief Achike Udenwa for Imo.
Dickson explained that the council's focus is to direct political operations across all elective contests, not just the presidency. He stated that the body will manage campaigns for governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly candidates, promising that the party will work together to carry its message across every part of Nigeria.
The formal unveiling followed Dickson’s overseas working trip, after which he hosted Obi and Lawal to review party operations. The leadership confirmed that an official inauguration of the entire campaign structure is set to take place on Monday.
