Vice President Kashim Shettima has asked the people of Ekiti State to give President Bola Tinubu at least 90 per cent of their votes in the upcoming January 16 presidential election.
Speaking on behalf of Tinubu during an All Progressives Congress campaign rally at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, Shettima stated that other contenders in the race do not match the President's credentials or political leadership, according to Punch.
The Vice President maintained that a second term would allow the current administration to consolidate the achievements recorded since taking office in 2023. He praised Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for bringing opposition members together to support the administration following the state's June 20 governorship poll.
During his address, Shettima also criticised African Democratic Congress candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, arguing that the former vice president lacks support in his home state of Adamawa. He claimed that sitting Governor Umaru Fintiri and former governors Boni Haruna, Bala Ngilari, Murtala Nyako, and Bindow Jibrilla are standing with Tinubu rather than Atiku.
Outlining federal projects in Ekiti State over the past three years, Shettima noted the completion of the Ado-Ikere-Akure road and the award of contracts for the Ado-Ijan-Iluomoba-Ikare and Ado-Aramoko-Ita Ore routes. He added that the federal government established a university in Iyin Ekiti and provided funding for local undergraduates through the national student loan scheme.
Also speaking at the event, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda urged Nigerians to deliver strong backing to all the party's candidates across various offices. Yilwatda cited the administration's tax reforms and educational interventions as key policies designed to protect low-income earners, support small businesses, and widen access to higher learning across the country.
