Digital media professional Adaugo Nwankpa has reflected on her journey after switching career fields to work within the energy industry, sharing the major insights she gained from starting afresh.
According to BellaNaija, Nwankpa made the professional move fourteen months ago, leaving behind her role of crafting articles and directing media narratives. She currently serves as an analyst handling tasks in both renewable energy and the oil and gas subsectors.
Reflecting on the change, Nwankpa noted that individuals making such transitions never genuinely begin from scratch. She explained that nobody starts at complete zero, which she defined as lacking background experience, contacts, intellect, or ability.
Instead, she stated that professionals carry forward the insights, abilities, and life background they have already built up over time. These accumulated attributes remain useful when stepping into an unfamiliar space.
She also pointed out that understanding oneself helps in handling new obstacles. According to her, personal awareness enables a person to tell whether a problem is tied to their own character traits or simply caused by the reality of entering a fresh environment.
Nwankpa further highlighted the value of professional connections, explaining that people often take a narrow view of networking by focusing only on family members, close friends, or casual acquaintances. She remarked that a true network also reaches online communities and individuals one has not yet met directly.
