Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is launching his 2027 presidential campaign on the platform of the African Democratic Congress in Sokoto State on Wednesday, 4 November 2026.

The campaign flag-off is taking place at the party’s state secretariat located at No. 1 Ilorin Road, according to Punch. The ADC State Presidential Campaign Coordinator, Senator Ibrahim Lamido, announced that Atiku was scheduled to land at Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, at 9 am, where supporters and party members were asked to receive him before heading to the secretariat.

Lamido directed executives across all 23 local government areas and wards, along with mobilization groups, to turn out in large numbers for the event. The gathering is aimed at rallying voters and boosting the party’s presence in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The launch follows days of political friction between the opposition party and the ruling All Progressives Congress administration in the state. Earlier, the campaign committee spokesman, Dahiru Maishanu, had stated that the party initially kept its rally location private due to security worries and fears of disruption.

Tensions flared after the Sokoto State Government sealed an ADC campaign office along Ahmadu Bello Way. The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Barrister Nasiru Aliyu Dantsoho, defended the closure, explaining that authorities stepped in after clashes broke out between Peoples Democratic Party and ADC supporters. He noted that the building’s Certificate of Occupancy remained registered to the defunct Savannah Bank, prompting queries to the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation to maintain public safety.

The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed that it received formal notification regarding the political gathering. Spokesman DSP Ahmed Rufai stated that the Commissioner of Police instructed the command to deliver adequate security, affirming that campaign activities are a constitutional right that the police would protect.
