President Bola Tinubu's economic agenda has put Nigeria on course to become a major hub for global shipping and trade, according to Abubakar Dantsoho.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority made the remarks while discussing the federal government's broader maritime vision, as reported by The Nation. Dantsoho pointed out that the current administration's targeted policies are driving crucial reforms across the nation's waterways and port operations.
The maritime sector remains one of Nigeria's most vital non-oil revenue generators, handling the bulk of imports and exports across West Africa. In recent times, the federal government has pushed for port modernization, digital clearance systems, and infrastructure upgrades to reduce vessel turnaround times and ease congestion at key terminals such as Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Onne.
Federal authorities have also created the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to unlock additional resources from ocean-related industries. Officials believe that tightening operations and encouraging private-sector collaboration will position the country to compete favorably with other leading ports across the continent and beyond.
Dantsoho indicated that consistent implementation of these policies will solidify Nigeria's standing as a preferred destination for international cargo and maritime logistics.
