Nigeria's U-17 national women's team, the Flamingos, are scheduled to take on Mexico in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco. The crucial knockout encounter will take place on Thursday, October 29, in the city of Salé.

Both sides enter the match aiming to secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the global tournament. According to PM News, the fixture became official after the group stage concluded and confirmed the match-ups for the knockout round.

The Nigerian squad advanced after finishing as runners-up in Group B. Defending champions North Korea finished ahead of the Flamingos to claim the top spot in the pool.

Mexico also booked their passage through the tournament by finishing second in Group F. The North American team secured their place following a narrow 1-0 victory against Australia in their final group fixture on Sunday, with Citlalli Reyes scoring the decisive goal to earn them maximum points.

The Mexican team comes into the match carrying notable pedigree at this level, having clinched the bronze medal at the tournament's 2025 edition. Their recent win over Australia provides them with positive momentum going into the tie against the West Africans.

For head coach Akeem Busari and his players, the match represents a major test where errors could prove costly. With no second chances available in the single-elimination phase, the Nigerian team will need to remain disciplined in defence and sharp in front of goal to advance deeper into the competition.
