The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency has secured ₦759,354,292.60 and $14,901.80 in refunds and billing adjustments for consumers over the past six years. The agency achieved this after handling thousands of petitions across key sectors in the state.

Afolabi Solebo, the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, announced the milestone in a statement issued by Adesile Rufai, the Assistant Director of Public Affairs, according to Punch. Solebo noted that the Mediation and Complaints Department attended to 11,120 complaints in total.

Out of the total petitions submitted, 10,720 disputes were fully settled. Another 250 matters remain under active mediation, while 150 petitions were forwarded to appropriate government agencies for further action.

The disputes spanned several industries, including online retail, telecommunications, banking, transportation, housing, aviation, and healthcare. Household appliances, logistics, education, and power distribution were also among the sectors addressed by the agency.

Beyond resolving disputes, the regulatory body carried out market monitoring exercises that led to the issuance of 437 non-compliance notices to retail stores and supermarkets. The infractions involved failure to display accurate prices, misleading labelling, and concealing essential information about products.

Solebo also pointed out that the agency expanded its operations across Lagos by establishing eight annex offices. These centres, located in areas such as Agege, Badagry, Ikorodu, Epe, Ojo, Bariga, Isolo, and Ikoyi-Obalende, were set up with public address systems and phones to ease complaint reporting for residents.

The agency is currently in talks with local government authorities to establish more annexes ahead of 2027. Solebo added that between January and September, the body generated over ₦20 million for the state government, surpassing its ₦10 million yearly target by more than 100 percent.
