Nigeria has urged the international community to deepen cooperation and provide technical support to developing countries in the push against financial crimes. The call was delivered by the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN.

Aliyu spoke while presenting Nigeria’s position at the 15th Session of the Assembly of Parties of the International Anti-Corruption Academy held at the Vienna International Centre in Austria, according to Politics Digest. He explained that graft continues to undermine the rule of law, sustainable progress, and good governance across the globe.

Because financial crimes now move easily across national borders, Aliyu argued that individual nations cannot defeat corruption on their own. He pointed out that Nigeria, as a founding member of the academy, has gained from its capacity-building initiatives and domestic training strategies.

The ICPC boss highlighted domestic progress under the National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2022 to 2026. He noted that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice inaugurated a monitoring and evaluation committee in February 2025 to ensure the framework runs effectively.

Aliyu also touched on the National AML/CFT/CPF Strategy 2023 to 2028, which deals with anti-money laundering and terrorism financing. He stated that the execution of these joint frameworks led to the Financial Action Task Force taking Nigeria off its grey list in October 2025.

On the domestic training front, Aliyu mentioned the work done by the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria, run by the ICPC, alongside the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Training School. Both bodies continue to boost skills within the country and across the region.

Aliyu called on the international academy to expand its academic curriculum and widen its international presence. He affirmed Nigeria’s readiness to join hands with other member nations to exchange best practices, build integrity, and check cross-border illicit practices.
