Rabiu Kwankwaso Targets Kano Grassroots to Boost Peter Obi Ahead of 2027 Polls

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is preparing to mobilize his strong grassroots following in Kano State behind his running mate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The move comes as political heavyweights position themselves for influence in the northern commercial hub.

Kano State remains one of the country's most critical battlegrounds, boasting roughly 6.5 million voters who could prove decisive in picking the next president. Political alignments in the state are expected to shape the broader outcome of the general contest, according to a report by The Africa Report.

Kwankwaso is banking heavily on his established local network to secure a commanding share of the ballots. However, the contest presents a stiff challenge as President Bola Tinubu maintains backing from the state governor and controls much of the regional political structure.

At the same time, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar remains active in the field, battling to win over a slice of Kano's vast voting population. The competing interests set up a tense multi-party struggle across the state.

Kano has historically played a central role in deciding national elections due to its immense voter registration figures. Kwankwaso, a former governor of the state and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, has long enjoyed a dedicated following across the region's urban and rural communities.

As the major political camps map out their paths to the 2027 ballot, the fight for Kano’s electorate is set to be one of the most closely watched contests in the country.
