Oyo State Governor and presidential flagbearer of the Allied Peoples’ Movement, Seyi Makinde, has presented his policy manifesto ahead of the 2027 general elections. The unveiling ceremony took place on Wednesday in Abuja, where he outlined strategies to tackle the country's economic and political hurdles.
Speaking at the event, Makinde argued that Nigeria is not inherently poor, but has suffered from a persistent shortage of creative and workable solutions from both past and present administrations. According to Daily Post Nigeria, the governor maintained that the nation holds vast human and natural wealth that remains untapped because the political leadership lacks effective vision.
Makinde rejected the idea of labelling Nigeria as an impoverished country, insisting that the core duty of governance is simply to make living conditions better for ordinary citizens. He stressed that any promise made by politicians must be backed by transparent timelines, measurable delivery structures, and accountable public bodies that citizens can track on their own.
The APM candidate also took aim at the federal government for transferring key national duties, particularly in the electricity sector, onto state governments. He called on citizens to demand accountability on specific commitments rather than accepting excuses.
Regarding governance and unity, Makinde suggested setting up a government of national unity alongside changes to electoral laws to promote broader political coalitions across religious and regional lines. He warned that the existing electoral rules could allow leaders to assume the presidency without broad popular backing, which risks weakening democratic systems.
Makinde explained that his campaign document came out of comprehensive consultations, including grassroots town hall discussions conducted across the country’s six geopolitical zones. He urged the electorate to examine the proposals carefully and back a fresh direction for the nation.
