Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has revealed that some musicians in the country resort to charms and voodoo just to land a hit track.
The Declan Rice hitmaker opened up on the pressure musicians face while speaking as a guest on the Tea With Tay podcast, according to TheNiche. He explained that making a track that connects with the public is a difficult task, leaving many acts frustrated when the music fails to perform.
Odumodublvck pointed out that the struggle to remain relevant pushes some people to seek supernatural help, while others simply disappear from the scene when hits do not come.
"Getting a hit song is not easy. Sometimes people even do jazz to get one. That is why you see some artistes crashing out when they struggle to get a hit," he stated during the show.
He noted that several acts go through their entire careers without ever securing a single hit record. Because of this, the rapper gave major respect to industry heavyweights Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido for remaining dominant and delivering chart-topping songs for over a decade.
"Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido have been dropping hit songs consistently for years. You have to respect that. Some artistes never get a hit song throughout their careers," Odumodublvck added.
The trio praised by the rapper have long stood at the peak of the Nigerian music industry, commanding international recognition across multiple projects. Burna Boy has churned out celebrated projects such as Twice As Tall and I Told Them, while Davido continues to run strong off successful bodies of work including Timeless. Wizkid also remains an industry pillar, famous for albums like Made In Lagos and his global collaborations.
