Vice President Kashim Shettima has announced that Nigeria has crossed the most difficult stages of its economic reforms. He assured citizens that the country is now positioned to experience broad economic growth and better living conditions.

Shettima made the remarks on Monday during an All Progressives Congress campaign gathering held in Calabar, Cross River State, according to Voice of Nigeria. While addressing party supporters, he appealed for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu ahead of the 2027 general election.

The Vice President maintained that the tough policies implemented by the current government have successfully rescued the economy and laid the base for future prosperity. He told the crowd that the coming years will focus on rewarding citizens for the sacrifices they made during the reform period, adding that rival parties do not have the capacity to steer the nation's financial direction.

During the address, Shettima explained that major infrastructure initiatives like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway were designed to open up Cross River State to global commerce and boost local tourism. He noted that the project would make transportation easier and create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities for residents.

He also pointed out that the federal administration has approved and backed the Bakassi Deep Sea Port project to serve as a vital international trade route. According to him, the port will bring shipping firms to the region, encourage industrial growth, and provide fresh commercial opportunities for local enterprises.

Additionally, the Vice President mentioned that the government is working to settle the dispute surrounding 46 oil wells in Cross River State. He added that students from the state are benefiting from federal tertiary funding through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, easing the financial burden on parents.
