Bilateral trade between Nigeria and the United Kingdom has climbed to £7.3 billion, showing an expansion in commercial ties between both countries. The British High Commission shared the update during an Abuja gathering held to celebrate the 78th birthday of King Charles III and the partnership connecting the two nations, according to Punch.
The announcement came through a statement released on Friday following the diplomatic reception held on Thursday. British High Commissioner Pete Vowles noted that the yearly celebration honors both the British monarch and the shared commitments between both nations.
Vowles explained that the partnership between the UK and Nigeria remains modern and focused on the future. He stated that both countries are actively collaborating on current goals and future prospects across commerce, schooling, technology, defence, and arts.
The event, arranged around the theme "GREAT Partners for the Future," drew senior Nigerian public officials, business figures, members of the diplomatic community, and civil society leaders. Attendees viewed an art exhibition highlighting historical and modern intersections between Britain and Nigeria, creating room to discuss new areas of cooperation.
The diplomatic mission stated that the gathering built on significant diplomatic interactions, noting a state visit to Nigeria earlier in March that underscored close public ties. The high commission noted that the ongoing UK-Nigeria Strategic Partnership covers joint efforts across investment, education, security, migration, and development, alongside enduring cultural and diaspora ties.
