Former Nigeria international Finidi George has shut the door on any potential return to manage the senior men's national team, declaring that he will never accept the Super Eagles coaching role again.
The former winger made his stance known while reflecting on his time with the squad, according to a report by The Sun Nigeria. His firm position puts an end to any speculation regarding whether he might one day seek a return to the dugout for the three-time African champions.
Finidi, who was a key member of Nigeria’s famous 1994 Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad and featured prominently at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, previously stepped into the national team's coaching seat. He served as an assistant before being appointed as the substantive head coach of the Super Eagles by the Nigeria Football Federation.
However, his tenure at the helm of the national side proved short-lived. A string of challenging results during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, including a draw against South Africa and a defeat to Benin Republic, led to intense scrutiny from fans and administrators alike.
Following moves by the football authority to appoint an overseas technical adviser to oversee the setup, Finidi opted to resign from the managerial position. He subsequently returned to club football in the domestic Nigeria Premier Football League, taking charge of Rivers United.
Having experienced the intense pressure, administrative hurdles, and high expectations associated with the country's biggest football job, the former Ajax and Real Betis star has now decided that his time with the national side is completely behind him. Supporters who followed his brief and turbulent spell in charge will not be surprised by his reluctance to take on the post again.
