Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has hit out at La Liga authorities over the team's tight match schedule, following their 3-0 away victory against Valencia on Saturday night.
Goals from Federico Valverde, Arda Güler and Kylian Mbappé earned Madrid all three points at Mestalla. The win keeps the club level on points with rivals Barcelona at the summit of the Spanish top flight, according to a report by Punch.
Despite the positive outcome on the pitch, Mourinho directed his post-match comments toward league administrators, expressing deep concern over the physical strain placed on his squad. The Portuguese tactician highlighted the heavy schedule his players endured throughout the week, featuring three fixtures alongside extensive travel within a short timeframe.
Mourinho stated that the congested calendar felt unfair to his squad, calling the situation an unreasonable demand on his players' fitness. "Tebas’s La Liga holds the power. I just hope they don’t pull a stunt like this again, the marathon of matches we’ve had this week. The players need rest," Mourinho remarked, adding that he hopes such scheduling is not imposed on his team again.
The manager also voiced worry about the upcoming schedule, noting that several members of his squad must now immediately link up with their respective national teams for international duty, an obligation he acknowledged is out of his hands.
The comfortable result at Valencia continues Mourinho's successful run of form since his return to manage Real Madrid. However, he has consistently maintained that the present calendar leaves his squad at a physical disadvantage when competing with rivals who benefit from more generous rest periods between games.
