The Super Eagles have suffered an attacking blow ahead of their crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Tanzania, with winger Samuel Chukwueze ruled out due to injury. The forward has been sidelined by a persistent hip problem, according to Complete Sports.
Nigeria enter the November international window under pressure in Group L following a shock setback against Guinea-Bissau back in September. With Tanzania trailing the Super Eagles by just two points in the standings, head coach Eric Chelle faces the task of securing maximum points without one of his most dangerous wide players.
The Super Eagles are scheduled to host the Taifa Stars first at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on 13 November. The squad will then make the journey across the continent to Dar es Salaam for the return leg just four days later, on 17 November.
Chukwueze's absence will force Chelle to retool his attacking unit down the right flank. However, the coaching crew have capable alternatives ready to step in, including Bayer Leverkusen's Nathan Tella and in-form LASK forward Moses Usor, who recently scored a winning goal on his international debut against Madagascar.
The team has also received positive news regarding other key players. Striker Victor Osimhen is set to lead the attack after overcoming a fitness scare at his club, while established midfielders Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi are both expected to retain their places in the starting lineup.
Tanzania head coach Miguel Gamondi is expected to bring a defensive approach to Uyo, leaning on veteran striker Mbwana Samatta to trouble the Nigerian backline on counter-attacks. Securing two straight wins from these two fixtures would guarantee the Super Eagles their spot at the tournament.
