Former Super Eagles forward Victor Anichebe is close to securing full ownership of English club Bromley, according to talkSPORT. The 38-year-old former Premier League player is heading an African investment consortium currently holding advanced discussions to buy the League One side from current owner Robin Stanton-Gleaves.
If concluded, the deal will see Anichebe step into club ownership for the very first time. The proposed acquisition comes at a turbulent period on the pitch for the South London team, who are struggling in their debut season in the third tier of English football.
Bromley achieved back-to-back promotions, rising from the National League to League Two in 2024 and then stepping up to League One at the end of last season. However, their stay in the division has been tough so far. The Ravens sit at the very bottom of the table, picking up only nine points from their opening 13 matches, alongside a goal difference of minus 20.
The poor run led to the sacking of manager Andy Woodman on 22 October after five and a half years at Hayes Lane, following a 4-0 loss to Leicester City. Bromley have since failed to win any of their three fixtures after Woodman’s departure, leaving them in an early relegation fight.
Anichebe has built a steady profile in corporate sports investment since hanging up his boots in 2018. He established Lumira Group, an enterprise focused on sports, infrastructure, healthcare and education across the United Kingdom. He was also involved in a £20 million leisure proposal in Liverpool and previously explored purchasing non-league side Gateshead last year before talks broke down.
During his active playing days, Anichebe made over 200 Premier League appearances between 2006 and 2017. He scored 27 league goals and provided 12 assists across spells with Everton, West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland. He featured most prominently for Everton, playing 168 matches and scoring 26 goals in all competitions.
On the international stage, the forward represented Nigeria 11 times, scoring once in a 2011 friendly against Kenya. He was also part of the national under-23 squad that won a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he scored against Japan.
