Nigerian music icon Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, widely known as D’banj, has shared a touching tribute to honour the memory of his late son, Daniel Oyebanjo III, eight years after his sudden demise.
The veteran singer took to his Instagram page to express his enduring affection for the boy, affectionately called Daniel D3rd. According to Vanguard, the entertainer reflected on how his household has managed the grief and noted that they have finally found peace and healing.
In his social media post, D’banj admitted that he deeply longs for his boy and acknowledged the deep pain experienced by the child's mother. He wrote that he could not fully imagine how she felt, but added that they, alongside Daniel's brother and sister, are currently in a safe space.
Calling the child the family's star boy, the music star noted that the loss offered him profound lessons regarding the true meaning of life. He also asked his son to extend warm regards to his late uncle, Femi, saying he misses him as well.
D’banj concluded the note by stating that he loves his son specially, physically, spiritually, and powerfully, signing off as the child's father and entertainer.
Daniel died on June 24, 2018, when he was just 13 months old. The toddler tragically drowned inside a swimming pool located at the family’s home in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The incident was a massive blow to D’banj and his wife, Lineo Didi Kilgrow. Over the years, the couple worked quietly to rebuild their lives and family while dealing with the painful loss.
D’banj, famed across Africa for massive hits like "Oliver Twist" and "Fall in Love", received widespread sympathy following the post. Fans and colleagues flooded the internet with supportive messages to stand with the family.
