The Lagos State Police Command has intercepted a suspected human trafficking syndicate in the Badagry area of Lagos State, successfully rescuing three young girls.
Force Public Relations Officer Ani Iniedu announced the development in an update shared on his official X handle, according to Punch. He noted that officers came across the victims during regular surveillance duties in the coastal border town.
The rescue took place along the Owode Apa Road corridor when police operatives stopped a commercial motorcycle carrying the three young passengers. Subsequent questioning by the officers established that the young girls were being moved by human traffickers.
According to Iniedu, the victims were immediately taken to safety and debriefed by police authorities. The State Criminal Investigation Department located in Panti, Yaba, has taken over the case file, while detectives continue working to locate and apprehend the perpetrators behind the trafficking attempt.
Iniedu also disclosed that police operatives, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, apprehended six suspects during a raid on an alleged criminal hideout in Kado Bimko, Abuja. The group, which includes primary suspect Abubakar Safiyanu, faces allegations linked to armed robbery, homicide, and extortion.
Items seized from the Abuja location included 11 stolen mobile phones, one laptop computer, dangerous weapons, and intoxicating substances. Investigators in Abuja noted that the key suspect had earlier been connected to a robbery and killing that occurred in June 2026.
Additionally, police operatives in Benin City, Edo State, tracked down and arrested a 52-year-old man identified as Kingsley Eghaghe over alleged gunrunning. Security officials apprehended him following intercepted communications, and the case remains under active investigation by local detectives.
