Nollywood filmmaker and actor Kunle Afod has voiced deep concern over the absence of rapid emergency medical response in Ogun State following a road crash along the Ibadan-Shagamu expressway.
The movie star took to his social media page to broadcast a live plea for assistance after coming across the crash scene. According to Kemi Filani, Afod stated that he remained with the casualties for roughly twenty minutes, but no rescue team or ambulance showed up despite repeated phone calls.
Visible in the recording were injured passengers lying unattended beside a damaged commuter vehicle. Afod lamented that efforts to contact local rescue teams yielded no results, leaving the wounded stranded on the busy corridor without first aid or transit to a hospital. Passing motorists also declined to stop and transport the victims.
"It is a terrible accident we met on the way along the Ibadan-Shagamu expressway. It’s so sad that, for about 20 minutes, we have been here, and no ambulance or emergency service has come to help them," Afod said while describing the ordeal online. He questioned the emergency preparedness of the authorities, wondering why rescue agencies were unreachable.
The video prompted strong reactions from Nigerians online, with many commentators criticising the government's priorities. Several users pointed out the stark contrast between the heavy resources deployed during political campaigns and the severe shortage of public ambulances on major interstate travel routes.
Beyond his film productions, Afod is widely recognised in the entertainment sector for his outreach initiatives that support aging and ailing Nollywood veterans. The actor previously survived a vehicle fire incident that left his driver and a bystander severely burned.
