Delta State has emerged as the highest earner from the federation account after receiving a total of N98.27 billion in revenue disbursements. The latest distribution records also show a notable shift at the top, with Lagos State slipping down the ranks to fifth position.
The figures, reported by Nairametrics, highlight the earnings shared among the states through the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC). The monthly allocations serve as a major source of revenue for sub-national governments across Nigeria, funding infrastructure, public sector wages, and various development projects.
Federal allocations in Nigeria are distributed based on a set formula that accounts for statutory revenue, value-added tax collections, and the 13 percent derivation fund reserved for mineral-producing states. Due to this derivation principle, oil-rich states in the Niger Delta region frequently secure larger shares of the monthly federally collected revenue compared to their counterparts across the country.
Lagos State, which regularly contends for the top spot alongside major oil-producing states due to its massive internal economic activities and population size, recorded a lower relative return in this distribution cycle. Observers monitor these FAAC disbursements closely as state administrations depend on them to plan budgets and meet recurring obligations.
