Serious concerns have emerged over the management of local government allocations in Osun State after huge revenue inflows failed to reflect in basic public amenities across the state.
According to Premium Times, the 30 local government areas in Osun State received a total of N238.4 billion between January 2025 and June 2026. The substantial sum came into the councils over the course of the 18-month period.
Despite the arrival of these funds, communities across the local councils continue to struggle with severely damaged roads, underfunded schools, and failing healthcare facilities. Residents also face persistent shortages of clean water, as existing water systems across several council areas remain broken and neglected.
The stark contrast between the billions distributed to the local administrations and the decayed public infrastructure on the ground has raised fresh questions among citizens. Local government areas are constitutionally tasked with maintaining grassroots infrastructure, including primary healthcare, rural access roads, and basic educational facilities.
With public facilities still in distress, pressure is now mounting on authorities to account for the massive funds disbursed to the grassroots administrations during the period under review.
