Nigerian Exchange Group Chairman Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga has challenged stockbrokers and investment specialists to ensure that money raised in the capital market translates into actual economic prosperity.

Kwairanga delivered the message in Lagos at the 30th Annual Stockbrokers’ Conference organised by the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers, according to the News Agency of Nigeria. The event focused on financing the country’s next stage of growth and international competitiveness.

Addressing market practitioners, Kwairanga explained that market performance cannot be determined merely by the size of funds pooled or transaction totals. He stressed that real achievement depends on how effectively money is invested, the survival of supported ventures, the jobs generated, and general economic expansion.

He urged market experts to take the lead in discovering viable commercial prospects while directing business owners and administrators on how to secure financing. Nigeria’s long-term ambitions, he noted, demand major funding in vital sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, technology, and manufacturing.

Kwairanga also advised stockbrokers to adopt emerging technology while maintaining high ethical standards, sound decision-making, and customer protection. He pointed to cross-border opportunities, asking operators to tap into the African Exchanges Linkage Programme to broaden investments regionally.

Highlighting regional integration, the NGX boss noted that the linkage programme alongside the Dangote Refinery Initial Public Offering showed Nigeria’s capability to extend its market influence across the continent. He recommended stronger ties between regulators, market players, exchanges, and policymakers to deepen African financial systems.

At the gathering, National Pension Commission Director-General Omolola Oloworaran also advised newly inducted fellows and associates of the institute to stand by their integrity. She reminded participants that a thriving market must eventually deliver improved living conditions for ordinary citizens.
