Nigerian health authorities have intensified surveillance and expanded tracing efforts to detect any potential cases of the Ebola virus within the country.
The move comes as monitoring teams widen their operations to track down individuals who may have been exposed to the virus, according to France 24.
Ebola is a severe viral disease marked by fever, weakness, muscle pain, and in severe cases, internal and external bleeding. It spreads from person to person through direct contact with body fluids or contaminated environments.
Nigeria previously earned international praise for its prompt and effective containment of an Ebola outbreak in 2014, when rapid contact tracing and strict quarantine protocols halted the spread of the disease within weeks.
Public health teams are expected to maintain close surveillance across entry points and health facilities as part of preventive measures to safeguard the population.
