Nigeria Starts Clearing Power Equipment Stuck at Ports for More Than 10 Years

The federal authorities have started the process of clearing electricity equipment that has been abandoned at maritime ports across the country for more than ten years, according to Nigeria Info FM.

The trapped cargo contains essential parts meant for strengthening the country's power network. For over a decade, the components remained uncleared at the terminals, holding back planned improvements across the transmission and distribution chains.

Nigeria's national grid has frequently faced operational strains, leading to repeated collapses and widespread blackouts across major cities. Many ongoing power projects have suffered delays over the years because critical imported hardware could not be moved out of the ports to project locations.

The clearance exercise is expected to release long-delayed electrical assets, including transformers and heavy line accessories, into active deployment. Moving these materials out of the docks will also help free up space within the congested port facilities.
