Tragedy struck in Ogun State on Saturday when two separate road accidents claimed the lives of three people and left seven others injured along busy transport corridors in the state.

The crashes happened along the Sagamu–Ikorodu Expressway and the Ota–Idiroko Road, according to Punch. The incidents were confirmed in an official traffic update by Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE).

The first crash took place around 4:10 p.m. at the Kam Steel section of the Sagamu–Ikorodu Highway. A patrol pick-up van drove out from the Kam Steel access road onto the main highway and collided with a tricycle, causing the smaller vehicle to somersault.

Akinbiyi confirmed that eight people were involved in that collision. One woman lost her life in the crash, while two other women sustained different degrees of injuries. Responders took the injured victims to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu for treatment, and the body of the deceased victim was placed in the hospital morgue.

Earlier that afternoon, around 3:25 p.m., another fatal incident occurred along the Ota–Idiroko Road around the Agarawu, Winners axis. This collision involved a yellow Howo truck and a TVS tricycle.

Eyewitnesses reported that the truck suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control of the heavy vehicle before crashing directly into the tricycle. Nine people were involved in the crash, which resulted in the immediate deaths of one man and one woman, alongside injuries to several others.

Before rescue personnel reached the location, good Samaritans and witnesses had already moved the wounded victims to a nearby hospital. Akinbiyi stated that relatives claimed the body of the female victim directly, while the body of the deceased male was moved to the General Hospital morgue in Ifo.

Operatives from TRACE, working alongside other emergency responders, managed to clear the wreckage and restore regular traffic movement on both roads. Akinbiyi noted that TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Nigeria Police Force extend their condolences to the affected families. He urged motorists to regularly service their vehicles to prevent devastating mechanical failures.
