Tributes have poured in for the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, as he marks his 20th anniversary on the throne.
Among those honouring the monarch is the TY Buratai Humanity Care Foundation, which praised his two decades of traditional leadership and religious guidance, according to Voice of Nigeria.
The Chairman of the foundation, Ibrahim Dahiru Danfulani, issued a statement noting that the monarch's reign has consistently championed peaceful coexistence, interfaith dialogue, and the strengthening of traditional institutions across the country.
Former Chief of Army Staff and Grand Patron of the foundation, retired Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, also commended the monarch. Buratai described the Sultan's 20 years of leadership as a lasting legacy dedicated to serving both the Muslim community and Nigeria.
The foundation noted the Sultan’s ongoing efforts to build understanding across diverse cultural, ethnic, and religious lines, praying that Almighty Allah grants him continued good health and wisdom to lead the Sokoto Caliphate and the wider nation.
President Bola Tinubu also felicitated the traditional leader on reaching the milestone. The President acknowledged the Sultan for his courage, humility, and steadfast contributions to sustaining unity throughout the country.
Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III formally took the throne in November 2006, serving since then as the head of the Sokoto Caliphate and the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims.
