Bendel Insurance have submitted a formal petition to the Nigeria Premier Football League over a contested goal awarded to Rangers. The Benin Arsenals are calling on the league body to review the decision that allowed the strike to count.
The incident occurred during an attacking phase in the 47th minute of the match. According to Premium Times Nigeria, Bendel Insurance are protesting that the match officials failed to apply the Laws of the Game when they allowed the goal to stand.
The club argued that the goalpost became displaced while Rangers were on the attack, meaning the play should have been handled differently by the referee and his assistants. They insist that allowing the goal despite the shifted frame went against standard football regulations.
Both Bendel Insurance and Rangers are traditional powerhouses in Nigerian domestic football, with their league fixtures often drawing intense scrutiny from fans and administrators. The NPFL is expected to review the complaint, match reports, and video footage before making any formal decision on the protest.
