Thierno Barry was the hero for Everton as his second-half brace inspired a 3-1 comeback win over Coventry, according to The Independent. The result moved the Toffees into the Premier League top five, lifting them above local rivals Liverpool.
Coventry, managed by former Everton boss Frank Lampard, went ahead when Yann Gboho scored his first goal for the club. Gboho reacted quickly inside a crowded penalty area to slide a shot past Jordan Pickford.
However, Coventry’s lead survived for only four minutes. Barry rose unmarked to nod home a cross from Vitalii Mykolenko to restore parity. The 24-year-old French forward struck again five minutes later, bundling the ball over the line from close range after beating Jay Dasilva at the back post.
Lampard’s side had moments of frustration with officiating decisions during the encounter. In the first half, James Tarkowski appeared to pull Caleb Yirenkyi’s hair inside the box, but VAR took no action. Later, Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi went down under a challenge from Mykolenko, but a video review confirmed the contact took place just outside the penalty box.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall made sure of all three points for Everton nine minutes from full-time, finishing smartly from a tight angle to seal their third straight league win.
The night also marked a major personal milestone for Everton manager David Moyes, who matched Harry Catterick’s historic club record of 592 matches in charge.
Barry’s double took his tally to 10 goals across all competitions this season, already beating his return from his debut campaign. Only Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has scored more Premier League goals than the Everton attacker so far this term.
