Nigerian radio broadcaster Cool FM has announced the introduction of its own recognition platform, the Cool FM Music Awards, also known as COMA. The event aims to spotlight not just performers, but the entire creative network that supports the country's booming entertainment sector, according to Punch.
The scheme will feature 17 different categories in addition to a special Cool FM Icon Award. The honours are divided into four main areas: Music, Creative and Visuals, Fashion and Style, as well as Culture and Influence. Organisers designed the initiative to reward producers, directors, stylists, DJs, and photographers who work alongside recording artists.
Speaking about the development, Cool FM Chief Executive Officer Serge Noujaim explained that after nearly 30 years of operating in the broadcasting space, the station wants to honour the full team behind every hit song. He stated that because Nigerian music now commands global attention, it is important to acknowledge the contributors who make that growth possible.
Project Chairman Joseph Adamu also noted that the platform intends to merge verifiable data, specialist insight, and listeners' choices. Entrants will not be required to submit forms or pay processing fees. Instead, acts will be assessed based on radio plays, digital streaming statistics, DJ sets, social media traction, and editorial reviews for materials put out between 1 December 2025 and 31 October 2026.
A panel of music professionals will oversee the shortlisting process before the public gets involved. The ultimate winners will emerge from a blend of the judges' scores, online votes, and responses from on-air radio audiences.
The organisers plan to reveal the members of the judging committee on 31 October, with the full list of nominees and voting guidelines arriving in November. The maiden winners will be officially declared online on 4 December 2026.
