The Confederation of African Football has unveiled its nominees for the 2026 CAF Women’s Awards, with Nigeria's national team and three home-based players making the prestigious shortlist.
The Super Falcons earned a nomination for National Team of the Year, according to Punch. The recognition follows the squad's continued prominence on the continental stage, where Nigeria remains the most successful women's football team in Africa with multiple Women's Africa Cup of Nations titles.
Individual Nigerian players also gained recognition across key categories. Edo Queens goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma received a nomination for Goalkeeper of the Year following her performances at club level.
In the developmental categories, two Nigerian prospects were highlighted. Seimeyeha Akekoromowei and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi both made the shortlist for the Young Player of the Year prize. However, no Nigerian player made the final list of nominees for the headline Player of the Year category.
The nominations highlight the growing profile of Nigerian women's football, particularly the talent emerging from the domestic league system and continental club tournaments. Edo Queens recently made waves on the continent after securing qualification and competing at the CAF Women's Champions League.
The annual CAF Awards celebrate the finest talents, coaches, and teams in African football over the preceding year. Football fans and stakeholders across Nigeria will be watching to see if the nominees can secure the honors at the upcoming ceremony.
