President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fulfilled his financial pledge to the Super Falcons, with squad members receiving the naira equivalent of $100,000 each following their continental victory.

The National Sports Commission confirmed the disbursement in a statement, according to Soccernet.ng. The payments wrap up a 15-month wait for the team, while coaches and other team officials received the naira equivalent of $50,000 each. While outlets reported differing conversion figures ranging from ₦134 million to roughly ₦140 million per player, the official statement did not specify exact naira totals.

The cash gift follows Nigeria’s historic run at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat in July 2025. During that encounter, the Super Falcons fought back from two goals down to overcome tournament hosts Morocco 3-2, securing a record-extending 10th continental crown.

President Tinubu originally announced the incentives during a presidential reception on 28 July 2025. Squad members had earlier received national honours as Officers of the Order of the Niger, alongside title deeds to three-bedroom apartments in Abuja, leaving only the financial compensation pending until now.

Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade conveyed the squad's gratitude to President Tinubu for honouring his word. She noted that the gesture acknowledges the dedication, sacrifices, and sheer hard work the players put in to bring glory to the country.

National Sports Commission chairman Shehu Dikko commended the President for settling the promise in full. Dikko pointed out that many Nigerian sports figures had previously endured years of waiting for promised rewards, praising the Ministries of Finance, Housing and Urban Development, and Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs for coordinating the handover.

The settlement mirrors a similar gesture extended to Nigeria's senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress. The basketball champions were paid matching sums following their fifth straight continental victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
