Gospel minister Yinka Alaseyori has publicly celebrated veteran singer Tope Alabi, marking a major sign of peace between the two music ministers five years after their widely publicized disagreement, according to New Telegraph.
The public gesture is the first open display of goodwill between both gospel acts since their relationship became strained half a decade ago. Over the years, followers of Nigerian gospel music have keenly monitored interactions between both artistes, hoping for a clear resolution to the quiet friction.
The rift originally gained widespread attention across the gospel music scene in 2021 when Alabi publicly criticized Alaseyori's hit worship song, "Oniduro Mi." At the time, Alabi questioned the spiritual context of referring to God as a guarantor, remarks that stirred massive debate among church leaders, music enthusiasts, and industry peers across Nigeria.
Following the initial dispute, Alaseyori maintained a calm public posture while her signature song continued to enjoy massive airplay and support from church congregations nationwide. Although Alabi later offered an apology and clarified her intentions regarding the critique, communication between both artistes largely remained distant in the public eye.
This latest move by Alaseyori effectively breaks the five-year silence between the two prominent worship leaders. Observers within the Nigerian gospel fraternity view the outreach as an important step toward unity and mutual respect between both respected ministers.
