The Abia State Police Command has started early security preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections by meeting with various security agencies and electoral officers in the state.
The gathering of the Inter-Consultative Committee on Election Security took place on Tuesday at the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Abia State, according to The Whistler. Abia State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, led the discussions aimed at improving inter-agency partnership before the nationwide voting exercise.
During the session, participants concentrated on evaluating possible threats across the state and planning the strategic distribution of security personnel. They also worked out measures to safeguard INEC staff and ensure the safe movement of election materials before and during the polls.
The security chiefs agreed on the necessity of guarding INEC offices and other vital public facilities, while following the election security guidelines released by the Inspector-General of Police. Attendees agreed that continuous discussions, steady cooperation among different forces, and regular security reviews would help detect risks early and improve readiness.
The committee reiterated that the police and other security outfits in Abia remain dedicated to protecting the peace and guaranteeing a safe atmosphere for voters and election workers in 2027.
Several key officials took part in the planning session, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Ifeanyi Ohuruzo, heads of other security bodies, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Abia, and the State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps.
