The African Democratic Congress governorship candidate for the 2027 general election in Enugu State, Obodoeze Ocho, has stated that flawed political recruitment processes are responsible for economic hardship and poor governance across the country.

Ocho spoke at an ADC Enugu North zonal stakeholders’ meeting in Nsukka, according to a report by The Whistler Newspaper. He noted that competent individuals are frequently sidelined during internal party contests because the system fails to provide a level playing field.

The governorship hopeful maintained that his party focuses on choosing candidates with strong track records to ensure the right people take up leadership roles. Ocho explained that the ADC remains committed to fielding credible individuals through transparent methods to prevent fallout after elections.

During the gathering, the party also introduced its senatorial candidate for Enugu North, Dr Ugochukwu Ugwuanyi. Ugwuanyi, a UK-trained neurosurgeon and member of the Royal College of Surgeons, pledged to focus on beneficial legislation and pursue the creation of Adada State.

Enugu State ADC Chairman Chris Eze, a retired army general, explained that the party took time to reveal its senatorial candidate in order to conduct a comprehensive vetting process. He said the party wanted a contender who stands above other aspirants in the district.

Eze appealed to residents across Enugu North to reject politics influenced by financial inducements. He urged them to back candidates who are genuinely committed to advancing their public interests.
