The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has raised an alarm over his safety, alleging that the administration led by President Bola Tinubu wants to kill him.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Sowore stated that his life is currently in danger. According to Daily Post Nigeria, the political activist and publisher made the claims while sharing his account of an assault launched against him in Ekiti State.

Sowore claimed that the incident in Ekiti was unprovoked and alleged that top security officials have information regarding the culprits. He specifically alleged that the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police is aware of the individuals who carried out the assault.

Recounting the aftermath of the incident, Sowore said the police commissioner visited him and his companions while they were receiving medical treatment. He claimed that people nearby warned him to leave the area because the senior police officer allegedly knew the attackers.

The former presidential candidate also accused state security agencies of continuous monitoring, citing a previous experience in Port Harcourt where he alleged an electronic tracking device linked to the Department of State Services was found on his vehicle. He pointed to his ongoing legal battles, stating he was taken to court for publicly criticising President Tinubu.

Sowore maintained that he has consistently challenged the legitimacy of the current administration and previous governments, noting that authorities have treated him as an adversary since his youth. He referenced his 2019 detention under former President Muhammadu Buhari, arguing that the same political system remains in power.

As of the time of reporting, neither the federal government nor the Ekiti State Police Command had issued an official statement responding to the allegations.
