The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has reportedly gone missing following a violent attack in Ekiti State on Friday afternoon, according to Politics Nigeria.
The incident occurred around 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026, when armed individuals stormed Tawakalitu Restaurants and Catering Services in Ado-Ekiti. Sowore was visiting the eatery during campaign engagements when the attackers struck. A short post published on his official Facebook page shortly after the assault stated that armed thugs abducted him and that his location was unknown.
In an official statement signed by spokesperson Abdulkareem Musa, the Sowore/Magashi Presidential Election Campaign raised alarm over the activist's safety. The campaign team noted that Sowore’s whereabouts remain entirely unclear following the incident and urged security bodies to intervene immediately.
The organisation called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and other relevant security outfits to conduct an urgent security assessment and launch a full probe. The team stressed that elections must not be treated as warfare, warning that any harm to Sowore or his associates would be completely unacceptable.
Reacting to the report, human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju strongly condemned the incident, describing it as political intimidation and lawlessness that should not occur in a democracy. Adeyanju disclosed that he was alerted by one of Sowore’s aides, who noted that a police officer assigned to the politician was disarmed during the assault.
Adeyanju demanded that law enforcement authorities investigate the matter promptly, locate Sowore, and bring everyone responsible to book.
As of the time of the report, the Ekiti State Police Command had not released an official statement regarding the situation.
