The African Democratic Congress has urged Nigerians to take inspiration from the recent midterm elections in the United States by voting out the ruling All Progressives Congress in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

In a press statement released on Wednesday by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition platform described the American poll results as a clear demonstration of democratic accountability. According to The Whistler, the party stated that US voters dealt a blow to the governing Republican Party over unpopular policies, proving that authority rests with the electorate rather than any political party or president.

The ADC argued that Nigerian citizens must understand that elections should focus on public welfare rather than personal sentiments, party allegiance, or personality cults. The party noted that the electorate cannot continue lamenting the high cost of living while returning leaders who have made life hard for ordinary citizens.

Highlighting the current national landscape, the party said citizens have endured severe economic conditions, declining opportunities, and rising insecurity under the APC administration led by President Bola Tinubu. It challenged voters to avoid what it called the contradiction of seeking change while maintaining the very political structure causing their distress.

Looking ahead to 2027, the party appealed to Nigerians to treat their voter cards as serious instruments for change instead of basic souvenirs of citizenship. It urged the public to turn out in huge numbers to protect their interests at the ballot box.

Presenting its own agenda, the ADC promised a clear path forward focused on three core areas: bringing down the cost of living, restoring security across the country, and providing employment opportunities for citizens. Abdullahi concluded that if American voters could demand better through the ballot, Nigerians possess the exact same capacity to make their votes count in 2027.
