More than two decades after the death of legendary Nigerian broadcaster and comedian Gbenga Adeboye, fresh disputes have broken out between his widow, Omolara, and his surviving siblings. The renewed tensions surfaced after Omolara appeared on the Kasnaty Show, hosted by Kolawole Adejojo on YouTube, where she shared her side of the events following her husband’s passing.
In the interview, Omolara claimed that her late husband’s relatives abandoned her during her period of grief and meddled with his assets, according to Punch. She stated that her husband’s brother, Femi Adeboye, took documents belonging to a house the entertainer built and later handed them to the head of the family. She also refuted claims that she had remarried and alleged that Femi visited a herbalist in Ibadan to secure charms aimed at subduing her.
The public claims drew a swift reaction from Gbenga Adeboye’s sisters, Seun and Sayo, who aired their counter-allegations on YouTube through Baba Olomi TV. Seun maintained that their brother was a prayerful Christian who refused invitations to join the Ogboni fraternity, contrary to long-running public speculation. She also alleged that valuables went missing from Adeboye’s residence while relatives were at the hospital, noting that Omolara held a spare key.
Sayo went further, accusing the widow of mistreating the entertainer before his demise. She claimed Omolara engaged an Islamic cleric from Ibadan to perform a ritual with a hen, a hot knife, and a black mixture. Sayo also disputed the authenticity of old correspondence presented by Omolara and claimed the widow violated hospital guidelines by serving him tea after surgery.
The family dispute has escalated to the issue of lineage. Sayo claimed Adeboye told his brother Femi on his sickbed that a child named Igwe was his only biological son. She stated that the family is now demanding DNA tests for Omolara’s three children to settle the paternity dispute once and for all.
